Yes, it is necessary to drill 1 inch holes into your concrete, paver or other  deck surface to secure the support poles. These holes will generally be located
every 36 inches. A professional grade core drill is used to ensure that the  surrounding pool deck is not damaged or chipped, and then a plastic sleeve is
inserted in the hole.
